Taking inspiration from the warmth and resilience of the people of L'Aquila, this work reimagines the brightness of the light and darkness of the shadows. It describes the harsh beauty of the scaffolding which, of necessity keeps both people and the structures of this ancient city safe - ‘till it rebuilds.
This is one of a short series of unique artworks exploring ideas of strength and fragility, light and shade. By means of unusual weave structures, I aim to portray the resilience within the beautiful yet damaged city of L’Aquila.
Adesso - Safe in the Shadows is primarily woven in silk and wool. 25x25x3 cms. The frame is untreated wood.
